The window types tend to be most audible in the drum sound. To be honest, I never even think about them. I use Blackman exclusively. Your window type is not going to make or break your final conversion, most probably.

Osx seems to need larger buffer sizes than windows. In fact the osx version of plogue has more and larger buffer sizes than the windows version.

Increasing the buffer size will decrease the dsp load (shown as a percentage at the very bottom of plogue) and therefore allow higher values of fft size and overlap without stuttering.

Note also that even if you have studdering or buzzing while live monitoring, if you remove the audio device and switch to offline processing for recording, your recording will come out clean. We normally do both the measure levels and apply gains/recording step with offline processing and only live monitor while adjusting settings.

Hey all. I am a newbie and am making good progress getting my stuff to sound awesome. My questions relate to dealing with original flac files. I will often download flac albums from the net. They include separate flac files for each track on the album. I then run toast, add all the flac files to a new audio cd. I then save it as an image and them proceed to mount it. I then use XLD to process it into a single wav file and the cue sheet. This is convoluted, but works fine. I hope I am not losing any quality with this. It would be really nice to have the ability to load in all the flac files so that I can play individual tracks in Itunes. Is this at all possible in a batch method?

Many thanks for all the help and guides getting me this far!

Flac to wave is lossless so you're not losing any quality.

It's a shame that foobar 2000 isn't available on OSX as that's really the swiss army knife for format conversions, cue files, etc.

Hopefully some of you that use the mac everyday will find the best tools and share here. I am developing/using windows but port SPEC to OSX.

Plogue does support flac files, so if you found a tool to merge all the flac files into one flac file that would be fine. You'll still want a cue file for ZAG, but it doesn't have to actually refer to an existing audio file, it just has to be accurate as to the index times.

Thanks so much for the reply. So does everyone just convert one big flac or wav file, or is there some way to do separate tracks in Spec?
