Hello People,

I don't really know what to say

I came across this place by chance.

I love music and more and more in the last 15 or 20 years I have been getting more and more disappointed with the quality of music CDs to the point of forgetting how it was to listen to a new record when I was younger

Today for my surprise I was amazed.
I got Genesis-The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Disc 1 as an ISO file. A rip from a sacd. This thing even played from my laptop through tiny cables connected to the stereo was a complete scream from the CD that I have and almost never listen because it is rubbish... lol
For the first time in years I felt like Wow...
So I followed some links and I got here in the hope of finding information on how to recover the wonderful full sounds from the past
I am hoping to read and learn with, and from, people that like sound and sound quality.

Ok now about me:

I like sounds... I like the wonderful prog rock from the past like Genesis (only up to the Lamb Lies Down), I like Yes, King Crimson. I like Miles Davis, Weather Report, Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, etc.
I like things like John Zorn, Melt-Banana, Boredoms, Fushitsusha, Hanatarashi, etc, etc
I like beautiful sounds and beautiful noises are included.
I like Nine Horses, Robert Frip and David Sylvian and Steve Jansen.
God I like so many things
In here I would like to learn how to get good sound. I would like to learn.

Welcome, Astro. You were always my favorite Jetsons character.

There's definitely some unlikely artists you listed who I think would make for some very interesting 5.1 conversion. Some John Zorn or Boredoms in surround......something to really think about. I hope we can help you get to a place where you're re-discovering the music you love through converting it to 5.1. Let us know how we could help.

Also am curious to know how you found us "by chance."

Well, in order to answer your question.... the somehow coming across this site was when I "somehow" also came across the Genesis-The lamb Lies Down Disc 1 that I decided to try. This obtained iso file ,) as I said, just turned my head. I was not expecting it to be so good
Mind you I was just giving it a try by playing it on my macbook and even there i could see that the sound was damn good so i just plugged in the little mini jack to the amp and had a direct listen from the stereo speakers and omg ) it was great.
To finalise the explanation lol the place where i found the file also had a brief summary on how to best use it by burning it to dvd etc and on this place, a link to this site was also posted, so people interested in these matters of sound could find a place for like minded individuals to discuss and learn lol
This is how I find myself now talking to you.
Other thing is, I do not know "rien de rien" about this stuff and when you speak about 5.1 conversions I feel a bit lost to say the least. I absolutely need to read about it. I hope this place helps me and makes it easier for me to learn and understand about these matters. All I know at this point is that what I listened on that file I mentioned in the beginning, was great; and I want more of it lol
there are so many things these days in terms of digital sound... I thought there was no way to listen to good sound unless you had a sacd player and the respective discs but this file just blew me away
I find myself lost in the midst of all this lingo and i dont know what to do or what is the best thing sound wise.
Anyway these are probably super newbie question and if so, I apologise lol

The main focus of this site is the SPEC method, which was developed by Zeerround and continues to be updated and beta tested by several of us. SPEC is a layout to be used within another audio editing/mixing program called Plogue Bidule, with the purpose of which is to help you create 5.1 mixes from your stereo CDs which are far superior to what any sort of hardware decoder, receiver setting, or other method found on the net can do. I am still finding it hard to understand how I can get such a mad crazy sound from a normal CD???? So why the heck dont they just play that good in the first place...?

I just wanted to say that yesterday when I was answering your question about how did I found this site, I was aware of trying to be a bit cryptic, lol.
I just wanted to say that I was not trying to be secretive and keeping some kind of well kept secret or something of the kind. I am sure that you guys have much more knowledge than me on all sorts of stuff, by just looking at the kind of forum you guys run. I am also aware that there are places and places to talk and I was just aware of not knowing what you want and not want to be discusses openly here. I was not sure if it would be appropriate, that`s it.
I have my own opinions on the subject of downloads and I also sometimes prefer to keep them to myself
As I said, I was just trying to respect a place where I had just newly arrived.

Ok... now that I just took that out of my chest, I am going to check the places you recommended.
I am trying to access the place recommended for mac users but i can not install the plugins... it says that i dont need them and yet i can not see the page, only the symbols to install the plugins... ok will give it another go.
To install manually, i am not sure which ones to install.

I downloaded SPEC 4.4 and also PlogeBidule, for mac, now i just need to find a nice tutorial that helps a proper newbie on his first steps lol
I`d love to listen to Frip and Eno with that sound... I cant wait lol

The mac stuff is a bit on the bleeding edge.

I'll try to make some mac videos over the weekend.

You don't need any VSTs on the mac. The osx version of SPEC uses apple supplied AU plugins instead.

I think sometimes the ability to do something, even if i do not really understand completely what I am doing, it helps with the wanting to know more about the why`s and how`s.
I think that if I manage to get one CD done, I will really get into it lol )
