thank you, Jorgeluiz, for the link, and for placing it in the right section. as with KVR, the trick with these databases is figuring out which plugins are useful. i looked through about 10 different compressors, but which would give me a result that adds only just enough warmth, just enough compression, without overcooking my source? which is the most user-friendly? i'm not necessarily asking for specific answers to that, but that's an example of the types of things you'd consider when going into sites like that. Zeerround was able to pick out some good ones for our "free mastering tools" guide. I'm sure there are others, but it's a lot to weed through. |

long story... i don't use compressors/limiters in my single layouts, i really don't like. when i was member in another forum, i was trying to convince some users to don't use that as they don't know how to use and was completely ignorants about ADSR parameters in audio dynamics. they just 'messed' the adjusts and BINGO: loud is better but full of clips...is the famous 'loudness war'! testing dozen i never could find what compressor, limiter or expander that i like. between all that i tested have one very simple, famous and good: w1limiter but i don't use any and Barry Diament agree with me..or i agree with Barry, just the same: don't maximize your audio or you'll damage the headroom. headroom is life breathing in the music where you can feel the impact of the high levels. more headroom, better ambient and impact without 'clip' your audio. my ears proove that to myself and wave-editors proove that for all eyes if the person can't hear this details. well, just my opinion...Cheers! |

Tend to agree with the above statement. I used to use compressors quite heavily in the beginning (here I have to say that I mostly work with older sources which are not as much compressed as today's music anyway) to get a rich full sound but I found out that the whole dynamic range was gone. Also, some parts or single instruments come out annoyingly loud to an extend that they cause ear fatigue. A little bit off topic but just my two cents . . . |

When I mentioned compression within this thread, I mentioned it as only an example of a question one might ask when looking at a site full of different free compressors. It was not meant to open up a "to use compression" versus "to not use compression" thread. However, if this is something that interests folks here, I'd be more than happy to see someone start a separate thread on the topic. For the sake of new readers, though, it's important that we try to keep on-topic within our threads and not use them to go off on different tangents. It becomes that much harder for people to find pertinent information later. |

i saw that you started a new thread after the last River161's post here. ...was too late bro! in General Techniques is nice but what about others 'no tech' questions? |
