I have run 30 foot spam cables from my pc to the HT. It can work, but you may need to compensate for something called "ground loop" or "ground loop hum". This is caused by two or more components having a different path to ground. (google "ground loop hum")
There are capacitor devices that can be purchased (I have some intended for use in car audio) that will electrically isolate the devices and remove the ground loop.
It works, and I used this for a long time.
But since I bought a DTS-610 I now use a single 30 foot Toslink cable and plug directly into my receiver. (There are no problems with ground loop via Toslink that I'm aware of)
Keep in mind that my Sound Card has spam outs, and I don't have HDMI connections on it so I can't help with that.

I have been trying to get my hands on a DTS-610 since I learned about it here with no success.

So, plan "B" - I have been looking at:

I wonder if the output from ASI04ALL could be fed to the encoder and fed out through Toslink.

Interesting I couldn't locate any other sound cards which claim DTS encoding capacity.

Has anyone used a card of this type for live DTS encoding to Toslink out with any success?

I would look at the Asus cards. No need to spend a lot of money unless you want to.

Yeah if you only need SPDIF or HDMI the ASUS HDAV 1.3 Slim card is on that a few of us have.

how can i monitor (or listen ) to the mix ?
sofar i installed anything ok...
but i cant hear the output.. only after i recorded i can listen to it..
the pioneer (VSX-820) does have a hdmi connection to my laptop (quadcore)
is there a way to adcive this?
my aim was to listen to the settings i want to make to hear the diffrence..

You need to add an audio device to your layout.

Right Click in the grey area (or use the palatte button at the top) --> Audio Devices --> output

and then look for a driver that has 6 or more channels, for your sound card. Then you connect that to the first 6 output pins on Zmon. The order of those pins is: LF RF C LFE LS RS, so you'll need to know which pins on your audio device correspond so you get the wiring right.

That's it.

The audio will be output if your Edit--> Offline Processing is NOT checked. The idea is to live monitor and make all your adjustments with Offline Processing NOT checked. Then check it off to do the "measure levels" and "Apply Gains" steps with ZAG. Offline processing allows Plogue to go as fast as your computer allows, vs. syncing it to the rate of your sound card.

Also if you are running at 88.1 or 96 KHz in your DSP settings, offline will be more stable as to glitches etc. That gives you the ability to do higher quality conversions than you can actually live monitor, by live monitoring at lower DSP settings to get all your SPEC settings, and then increasing the DSP and going offline for the actual conversion.

Hope that's clear.

Note that we're depending on your sound card to send 5.1 LPCM over the HDMI to your HT, OR your sound card does DTS interactive/Dolby Live, where it is encoding to DTS or Dolby on the fly. If you ONLY had SPDIF (vs. HDMI) DTS Interactive or Dolby Live would be a requirement.
