You'll have to excuse me if I lean on you guys a bit. The problem is that I trust you as having no hidden agenda.
What I am doing: Finishing configuration of 6-core and 4-core so I can actually work, my area of expertise being in the design of educational materials based on math and logic for eventual embedding in interactive video games. Audophilia is for me like the love of a good woman, without which what is the meaning of work? In short, I have extremely good ears (a gift), read a lot, but am completely new to this whole 5.1 surround sound thing. Should have computer system, electrical wiring (don't wish to blow up the house so gotta move some amps around), etc. all set up in a week so I can begin playing with all that you have taught me.
On the MediaMonkey site, there is a fellow from Serbia by the name of Peke who wrote me,
"I would suggest that you play FLAC off the HDD as personally Simulated/Guessed 5.1 from stereo is not quality enough for me (Hardware upscale is better but not perfect) and thus I sent these samples for testing. They use Cloned Surround technique which most audiophiles prefer." (Note: His English is very good but often double-negative convoluted. What I believe he is saying is that "Cloned Surround technique" is superior to "Simulated/Guessed 5.1" - whatever the hey that means!)
I'm sure he has good intentions but I also from his website glean that he has some commercial motivations as well. Request:
Can someone please translate his above statement so that I can understand it. I am not a mixer or sound-room guy. But, then, I have realized that I know a whole lot about a lot of things but not deep enough about anything except education to suite my OCD needs.
Btw, I believe this site accepts donations. If so, please let me know the procedure. I am not rich, used to be and will be again (such is life), but I owe you something for all my requests for help.
Thanks,
IG
