Perhaps you have some setting in your sound card that is doing 2 to 4 ch. I don't know why it would only happen on two albums but the sound card set up is a logical place to check. |

tests... was checked sound card, is adjusted to 5.1 as always was. pc is plugged via RCA(spam) to amplifier. 5.1 waves with differents tones in each channel play seperateds channels.(no redirections) playing stereo cd from dvdrom(pc) play stereo. playing stereo sources(waves, flacs, wavpack, apes) in a.audirion, sound forge, winamp and MPClassic HC play stereo!(have others player but no need more tests in this case) playing waves and flacs in VLC play stereo. playing apes in VLC(only) play in 4 channels where L=Ls and R=Rs!! the sound is very clean! checking VLC configurations all is default, i never changed anything! as i posted the screenshots and all configurations/infos are stereo means 'mad player' ? cheers! |

found explanations. how to adjust VLC Media Player: (mine is in portuguese, some words can be differents in english) tools - preferences - show configuratons(click details), audio - output module - directX select speaker configuration to 5.1 ! only to remember details... 5.1 audiocard plugged via RCA cables to multichannel decoder/amplifier don't have seperetions between fronts and back speakers, the seperetion is only between Left and Right as the source but in 4 channels! LFE get the 'redirections' of low frequences too, then is 4.1! sound's good with nice 'ambient' ! only happen playing stereo .apes, others lossless formats play stereo.(mp3 not tested) cheers! |

This would be the default setup for most car stereos. Right channel goes to front and back right speakers, Left channel goes to front and back left speakers. Subwoofer gets lows. Not really 4.1, as you only have the two discrete channels. 2+2.1? I've often wondered why HT's don't have an option for this. |

There's a very similar discussion going on presently on the SurroundSound forum. Apparently, the feature you're asking for exists on some receivers (Onkyo, Denon) and is named "all speaker stereo". Some receivers simply have a "B" set of outputs that sends the left and right signals to the rears. |

you're right Fan51. (i saw your and bob posts in SurroundSound by mail notification) my Sony receiver have A.F.D Auto for automatic selection and some of 'preferencial' possibilities like PL II MS... NEO6 CIN...lots more and Multi ST.. this option play like you explained. (as i don't use i forgot this option) using Multichannels IN, the options above don't work, you can't do changes as are really sepereteds inputs! cheers! |
