Thank you for your interest in surround techniques.

The Circle Surround VST is something most have us have played with at one point or another. It is simple but rarely gives you the best possible result. Most methods have been developed for the purpose of addressing specific conditions found in some albums and usually produce much better results than Circle VST. The SPEC method, which is actually a group of spectral methods all packaged into one layout, gives you a lot of options and control over the process and therefore allows you to optimize just about any conversion. I would suggest you spend some time learning SPEC.

Another comment I would make on your layout is that you have a latency issue with the limiter on the center channel. It needs to be corrected with a delay line, otherwise you will hear a small delay between the center and the other channels. Ozone might also have latency issues but I'm not familiar enough with it to be sure; others might want to comment on it.

Ozone is a very powerful tool but it needs to be used with great moderation or you will end up with an overcooked conversion. Read the mastering guide for more details.

I agree with Fan51 here. the Circle VST is an older tool which just is not going to get you anywhere near the same results SPEC will on most sources. Sure, there is always the case of that one special source that works better with it than anything else, but I don't think it's worth searching for that source.

The use of Ozone for the rears, a separate limiter for the center, and added reverb for the fronts.......that's just not going to sound good. At all. Building a separate layout with your favorite mastering VST into which you feed your 6mch files and output 6 mono wavs, or utilizing the "free mastering tools" discussed in the surround Wiki, would be best.

You also have no way here of measuring your relative levels, or checking for any clipping which may occur. Unless you plan on live monitoring every track and checking for relative levels by ear, you need a way to achieve balance.

We spent a lot of time on the surround Wiki. My suggestion would be to give what we've put up here a shot and report back with any questions. You're going to get a ton of help along the way.
