We're now at over 250 members, and have noticed that quite a few of you have downloaded at least one of the three SPEC packages. While we've heard from a handful of members who have struggled with the install, we'd like to hear more from those of you who have successfully installed, and are actually using, the methods. What has the experience been like for you? Please let us know.

i have great results using SPEC-CC, i'm testing the others options but have to wait until my new pc be intalled/running all that need as the 'old' can't run Arctan.

I've been using CC and ArcTan together, the latter has been tweaked a little but isn't that far from default. I've had a couple of issues, the main one being that sometimes a mch file created with SPEC has a random bit of noise (like a buzz) inserted. This isn't a huge problem as re-encoding the file fixes the problem. The issue might well be due to my ageing laptop getting a bit breathless sometimes.

I don't have a means of monitoring Bidule so the workrate is a little slow at the moment as I convert everything to DVD-A, burn to a disk and then test them. But the results are impressive. I think if I am going to continue with creating surround sound music I am going to need a new soundcard, if not a new PC.

Once I had SPEC working properly I found it easy to use and fairly intuitive. The 'learning curve' was steep to begin with but soon flattens out, aided by some excellent documentation. In fact I think that most of the issues I had were down to my not reading the f***ing manual properly. In terms of additional features, at the moment I'd really like a simple batch mode but it's not really that important.
