hello there, just did my first conversion and there are some definite issues. mainly there is an echo from the front to the rear and I'm not sure why? aside from that and the 1 track 10 song disc I burned the sound is incredible!! I am sold. however some assistance would be appreciated.
work flow; imported w foobar wav conversion, used slice method
input to zag ,ran measure all good, (not really sure what to do with those #'s) or if I leave zag on while recording or bypass or hit apply gains and I'm done? but I bypassed after using the #'s as a sort of guide.
hit the generate multitrack files, where I guess to make separate tracks I should have Ind. files.
made 6 mono wavs .
rear humidity @ .60
activated lfe used the 1 pole filter then the 5th orders
set cross at 100hz sub bass at 18 ( the lfe was excellent on fin product by the way)
upsampled the mono wavs from 24/44100 to 24/96 with audiomuxer
encoded the 24/96 mono wavs w/ surcode mlp
burned the disc w/ discwelder as a dvd-a

I used no vst's of any sort used the 4.2 w zag layout
my fft window is 8192, fft overlap 8

not really sure where I went wrong ? bad echo's the worst thing, gains are good , no clipping I was careful to watch for that. Like I said the sound was simply amazing, you have an amazing product here and I am sold, I need to work on my seperation a little but all in all it was'nt bad. some assistance on these issues would be much appreciated. thank you,
sincerely, Kevin

Kevin,

You're saying you utilized Slice with a .6 humidity. Was this the first or second humidity? Did you use wrap?

With ZAG, you measure your gains on the first run-through, switch to apply gains, set your center, front, and LFE settings, and then record. You're correct on that.

As far as the "echo" goes, Zeerround's better at asking FFT-related questions. My question is more source-dependent. What artist are you trying to convert? Is this an artist where vocal echo is inherent in the mix?

Did you also try ArcTan with this source?

Thanks for the kind words. That Zeerround is a surround genetic freak. :)

Since you mention ZAG I'm assuming this is SPEC 4.2.1?

FFT latency with slice would show up in the LFE, not in the rears.

Did you make any changes to the layout?

hello river, I had the humidity set at .6 for 1'st and 2'nd stage. the disc is robin trower/bridge of sighs, but now I am going after it and twice removed from yesterday. I did not wrap the rears , however I think I may have set my rear speakers too far apart. I moved them in a little and this seemed to clean up the mix, not sure if that can cause the echo/weird delay problem or not. I played with the arctan however it seemed that slice sounded better, I did not actually produce a disc with it though.

hello zee, this is spec 4.2.1 w zag . I made no changes to the layout other than bypass zag, and bypass limiter. after playing again with the program last night I am still really foggy on the use of zag, the only way to use it is by making a cue sheet in foobar and dropping the whole album as one song into spec. Then how do you produce seperate tracks for each song? keep in mind I am going after dvd-a, not a dts cd. At the end the dvd I produced seemed to have fine gain on each channel, or maybe not ie. my echo/delay problem. Can a speaker setting especially in the rear that is too far apart cause this?
thank you both very much for your kind assistance, Kevin

thanks for that tip, fan. I will try it, trackpoint, I will look for it as I am using chrome as well, and while I don't mind small gaps in playback, doing each track one at a time is painful, but I would like to be able to skip tracks.

zee thank you I will experiment a bit as I am playing on dvd-a player in a car mostly with no time delay or compression of any type except crossovers mainly for bass mgmt.
