has any one looked at Sony spectral layers pro looks very interesting any thoughts on it looks a bit complicated for me but could be a great tool to use |

Probably great for dialog editors. Maybe of occasional use for upmix/conversion, but VERY labor intensive and only really useful when you have instruments and or vocals NOT playing the same notes. That's my take, however perhaps others have more patience them I. |

I've never been a believer in any program, no matter who the developer, that promises you discrete isolations from stereo due to the obvious limitations of overlapping frequencies. Zee did play around with this a bit, and I'm not surprised to learn that there are some decent results you could probably get with a ridiculous amount of time and effort. I think that trying to derive stems from stereo is a bit of an unnecessary holy grail. Even if you were hypothetically able to get there, mixing in 5.1 with multis is a separate artform onto itself. |
