Hello my name is Tom, ie. AlleghenyTom. I've been interested in moving sound since I heard Pearly Queen done by Traffic way back in 1969. My life didn't lead me into music as I wanted all those year ago. But, I'm retired now and pursuing music recording (and a bit of making) as a hobbie. A couple years ago I designed and built a solar powered, remote controlled, wireless, 4 quadrant/4 channel recording rig. I used 4 PZM mics and 4 Sennheiser Digital 1000 transitters in the rig. This is powered by a bank of (6) 6volt gelcell lead acid batteries that are recharged by an array of solar cells through a solar charge controller. The Sennheiser transmitters transmit 4 channels (1-4) to the 4 recievers mounted in a rack case. The 4 recievers feed a Roland SRQ 4015 4 channel Equalizer that feeds a Roland VSR-880 8 track digital recorder. I record sound from Front, Left, Right and Back. I use these 4 channels to produce 2 channel stereo and 5.1 dts surround sound from live outdoor music. I'm experimenting and learning and open to any suggestions and/or advice. The actual mic rig is 42inches in diameter and almost 5 feet high. It has LED lights that indicate when power is ON, when the mics are powered and when the transmitters are powered. There are LED lights imbedded around the top level and under the bottom level that light up at dark to keep people from walking into it at night. And these lights go out at dawn. The solar cells on the top recharge the battery bank and hopefully get me through the day of recording bands all day long. More later. |

Welcome Tom. You sound like a pretty creative person. We can learn from you and you can learn from us. Sounds like a good match. Cheers! |

Welcome, Tom. I think I've run across other write-ups on the live work you do on the net and was interested as to how you did things. Would love to know more and, if you've got any sort of "fair usage" material to share with us, we'd love to hear it. You're approaching things from a very different POV, and that's fantastic. |

I do have some music that was recorded with my recording rig and edited by me. I have it in both 2 channel stereo and 5.1 dts. Leave message if interested. |
