I've been a full-stereo (all right then, sigh, surround . . .) enthusiast since 1998 when I stumbled across a JVC amp with an oddly cluttered rear panel in RicherSounds. Anyone else remember ProLogic before they invented numbers?
So now I've got Pioneer and Denon SACD players and I'm saving up for an Oppo. The downstairs system includes a Yamaha receiver, centre and rear speakers (wood-look), home-made mains (Tang Band tweets and Visaton mid/woofers in modified Gale boxes, crossovers bodged in behind the amp). Believe it or not, the rear cabling came from the local waste depot - clearing some junk from the loft and I got me feet tangled up in 20m of discarded Gale XL189!!
These days I'm experimenting with 24-bit downloads from PrestoClassical, 7digital and Society of Sound. Next on my list is Tubular Bells in 5.1 from their buy-only section. Having a few problems burning out with DVDA-Author but I assume that's a mixture of an elderly PC and me being a bit of a numpty.
Musical tastes: Ockeghem, Eton Choirbook, Bachs (J.S. through various J. C.s), Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Stones, Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd, Atkin/Covington, AC/DC, Morcheeba, Manics, Public Service Broadcasting, Heaton+Abbott, White Stripes . . . so quite varied really . . . currently rediscovering Focus, U2 and Jake Thackray.
