FYI - I bought the Creative DTS-610 (Amazon $26.99, delivered, stateside) installed between my computer's on-board 5.1 sound card and a used 5.1 HT system - works well. I can now monitor sound from each speaker both visually and audibly.

Awesome.

Just FYI, for the MAC I figured out how to use Plogue and the DTS-610 to record DTS wavs (44.1 Khz only) vs. using a software encoder like sur-code. It's kind of a pain but since there's no software encoder under $250 for the mac I thought some people might find it useful.

I can post a "guide" in the wiki if there is interest on windows side as well.

If by chance your 5.1 sound card can record SPDIF then it would be much simpler, otherwise you need two sound cards and two instances of Plogue talking to each other.

Questions to ask before you spam:

1) Is there an included ASIO driver, so that I can live monitor with 5.1 channels in Plogue, for my specific operating system (and specifically the 64 bit vs. 32 bit version of the OS)?

2) Does it support SPDIF at 44.1 KHz as well as 48 Khz (so I can play both DTS CDs and DVDs to an SPDIF connected Home Theater).

One thing to be aware of with Creative is all the extra software they install which can make it difficult to get "bit perfect" audio and use their hardware with digital audio music programs like Plogue. Their target audience is video games and DVDs, not music production.

Let us know what you find out.

Z
