Trying to mess with this AudioMuxer app...
I stumbled across this on the Quadraphonicquad forum and saw it in other google searches as well.

What I want:
DTS 24/96 --> 5.1 24/96 wav file (as lossless as possible for this format)

What I don't want:
5.1 24/48 wav files with only the dts core extracted

Will AudioMuxer do this?
I don't like the DTS format (or any lossy format) but I guess I still want access to media that is only released in this lossy format. I try to be stubborn and refuse to purchase things like this but sometimes you just can't help it. Sorry, ranting...

So... is there actually an app that works? Maybe this one?:)

I got past the installation issues (tweaks with Wine, etc, etc) and... "The app had a serious issue and has to close. Sorry." Just refusing to run in OSX! Alright. Dig out an old copy of Parallels and Windows XP (shudder). Installed and seems to work. Some .net microsoft app nonsense later and AudioMuxer is installed. And it actually launches! Alright! Now I find this decoder extension for the eac3to app called ArcSoft Decoder Pack. Oh no, looks like I need to install eac3to in the Windows VM now... Alright, it seems to have all worked (installed at least).

And... eac3to doesn't seem to be able to see or use the ArcSoft decoder. It appears to default to the dts 48k core only extraction. I get the error message when (it looks like) eac3to tries to use Arcsoft: msvcp71.dll and MagCore.dll was not found. It seems to want to find these if I try to run it anyway but I get the error and it resorts to the 48k only extraction. I get the same error when I try to run "DTS test". The greyed-out Arcsoft box is unchecked.

I found a couple apparent hints (adding to your environment path, etc) but only vague instructions that really seem like someone just guessing.
The problem is this is now a Windows installation and I wouldn't have the slightest clue how to fix or work with any Windows issues that would just be matter of course in OSX.

So...
Can this be made to work correctly?
Will is decode (to the fullest extent) DTS 24/96 (not just the 48k core)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS. I listen with an Apogee Rosetta 800 192 served from the computer. I'm aware that there are dedicated hardware surround receivers with the decoders integrated for this format but I have absolutely no intention of buying some receiver with so-so DACs to listen to a couple lossy surround discs. Just to avoid those suggestions if they come up.

PPS. I can play the dts file with XBMC but I'm almost certain it's only extracting the 48k core and upsampling it to 96k (just like every other app I run across).

Again, I'm a fairly advanced Mac OSX user but I have absolutely zero Windows knowledge. (I'm assuming at this point that this is NOT going to run in OSX.)
Thanks.

Once you'll get the ArcSoft decoder properly set up for eac3to it will work, i.e. the DTS 96/24 stream will get decoded to 96kHz.
I'm not a specialist on the matter on how to make it work in an OS X environment, but I have searched around and came across this post. Maybe this can help you further -->

Thanks for the reply Pl4yitLOUD.:)

OK so what you're saying is I should stop trying to mess with Windows and go back to OSX. I've used eac3to in OSX with Wine before and it seems to just work. I'll see if I can get Arcsoft installed.

So the only thing I should try to do with AudioMuxer is extract the dts file? Then switch to just eac3to (with Arcsoft installed) for conversion to wav?

eac3to tells me "The ArcSoft and Sonic decoders don't seem to work, will use libav instead."

I have the ArcSoft Decoder Pack eac3to v1.1.0.0 installed. What should I try?

I just tested and it's working for me.

I made 96/24 flacs and in AudioMuxer if I mouse over the eac3to line I can see that it indeed decoded 96/24.

My settings look just like yours (checked off and grayed out).

I have ArcSoft TMT 6.

OK, I think I know what's wrong. You need to check "export to flac", otherwise you get a dts file (which is why you say AudioMuxer extracts the core dts file?).

If you really want wav, you can use the AudioMuxer Audio conversion tool to convert the flac(s) to wav.

Don't worry, Flac is lossless, so you won't lose anything in the conversion.

OK, Thanks!

I'll try FLAC...I find that FLAC is better than PCM (WAV) for my purposes, it's lossless but compressed with metadata unlike WAV files.

I'm attempting to extract DTS 96/24 from my Genesis Box Sets (most, if not all are 96/24) so FLAC is fine, I'll move the files to my NAS (6TB) to play on my Oppo BDP-103.

If you could explain "mouse over to eac3to line", I'd like to replicate what you've done / see using AudioMuxer to extract audio files from DVD (DTS-96/24).

I'm assuming sound quality wise that if I can extract an exact copy of the 96kHz/24 bit file, it would be better than resampling from 48kHz to 96kHz via AudioMuxer...I've resampled all of the Genesis Box sets, but now I'd prefer to extract an exact copy 96kHz/24 bit to FLAC.

1) AudioMuxer --> Tools --> Extract Audio From DVD-Video
2) Select VTS*IFO file
3) AudioMuxer should show the VOB file with "DTS-96/24 5.1 Channels, 1510 kbs, 96kHz"
4) Check "Load In AudioMuxer And Split in Chapters"
5) Check "Rename"
6) Check "Export to Flac" and choose your compression level (all are lossless, 8 is smallest file)
7) Do not check "As SPDIF WAV"
8) Click on the DTS line
9) Press Extract
10) Choose where to write output file(s)
11) Enter Tagging info
12) Press Tag
13) Save Cue file

Extraction in Progress

14) Rename files if needed, otherwise press quit
15) Mouse over ("hover") the eac32to line, you should see a pop up showing the output of the eac3to operation,

16) Open on of the flac files in foobar. It should show as "FLAC | 7486 kps | 96000 Hz | 6ch" in foobar.
