Post subject:  Help getting Dts wav album to play on PS3

Hi

I downloaded an album 5.1 DTS in a Wav format. I can play it with Vlc and foobar player on my laptop. I want to play it on my PS3 as I use it with my Yamaha DTS 5.1 amp and surround system.
I burned it to disc (cd-r) and it just played white noise.
I got advice on the correct settings for the PS3, applied them (set the volume to normal with correct output frequencies) and it is now silent.
Any ideas on how to play it?

Cheers

There's a thread here:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=281&hilit=ps3

Short version:

1) you need a digital connection from the PS3 to your HT (Home Theater)
2) you need the correct PS 3 settings to stream 44.1Khz to your HT
3) you need the correct PS 3 settings to do that "bit perfect", that is without ANY modification to the signal (including ANY volume change).

Cheers

I used that thread to apply settings to my PS3, just got silence. I looked at input detection settings on my amp, even setting them to DTS and that hasn't worked. I have the PS3 connected with an optical cable.

The discs are burned onto CD-R and they play using VLC on the laptop. The folder consists of .cue file and .wav file along with artwork/cover etc. I unzipped and burned to disc.

Any ideas?

I no longer have a ps3 (although others here do) so I can't do much more than point you to settings. Perhaps another member will chime in.

Unless I'm getting fooled by the VLC thing working.

You need to burn this like an audio cd. Use imgburn to open the cue file and burn the disc.

The fact that at one point you were getting white noise meant that you succeeded in burning an audio disk. If you're not using image burn make sure you're not doing any kind of volume normalization, etc., in the audio cd burn settings.

The DTS CDs posted here are known to work: viewforum.php?f=19

burn the cue file with imgburn http://www.imgburn.com/

I am just using my standard burning software installed on my laptop, I'll give imgburn a try. Do I just burn the .cue file to the disc or do I burn the whole folder, .wav/.cue and cover images?

If I use PS3 media server I can play the .cue files but the .wav are silent (unless I alter volume level on the PS3).

You just burn the cue file with imgburn. If you look at the cue file, with notepad, you will see it is just instructions for the burning programs to break the wav file into tracks and for cd text, etc.

Burning folders and or files makes a data disc, hence the silence when you try to play it.

If you tried to burn just the wave file, you would probably get a cd with one long track on it.

I got rid of my PS3 a couple of years ago as well, unfortunately. I remember firmware updates sometimes tripping all this up.

I found PS3 forums extremely useful with this although, from your description, I would look into whether these burned discs are playing well on other players.

I burned the .cue file using imgburn using the tutorial..................... It works!!
Put the disc in and all the speakers lit up on the amp with a lovely DST icon.
The only thing I can't do is split into the tracks on imgburn, the disc is one long track. Is this normal or can I remedee this?

Thanks for your persistence and great advice.

Open the cue file in notepad and check it out. It must not have the correct info for the tracks.
