Hello all, I am new to this software and forum. I have some Dolby TrueHD files with Dolby Atmos with the .mlp file extension and would like to output them as MKV, which I was told by some fellow engineers could be done with AudioMuxer. When I try load the .mlp file AudioMuxer does not even recognize the file. I know the file is good because I can play it with the Dolby Reference Player app.

Any help would be appreciated.

Full disclosure I am also not a Windows guy...

You also need an ac3 version. The TrueHD (mlp) and the ac3 version need to be interleaved together. Audiomuxer will take that interleaved .thd+ac3 file.

The interleaving can be done with eac3to.

If you don't have an ac3 version from Dolby Media Encoder, one can be made from the mlp. I know ffmpeg can do it. I'll have to find my notes for all the details.

Thank you for your response. I thought ac3 was a lossy codec which would defeat the purpose of converting the Dolby TrueHD mlp to mkv.

The BlueRay spec requires that there be an ac3 version. It's OK to have both, but not TrueHD and no ac3 option.

I'll post instructions in a bit.

Where do I find the UsEac3To guy? Is it in the Audiomuxer?
