Hi all,

I'm here because I love surround! I collect commercial and homemade. I would like to learn to make my own stereo-to-surround and multi-track (master source tracks) to stereo and surround (my own band's material) mixes.
I'm from Bay Area, CA. I love prog-rock, hard rock, metal, ambient, jazz, blues and many other genres.
I'm a song-writer, guitarist and singer.
I look forward to meeting you all and to the journey ahead!

Welcome!

The main focus here is stereo to surround, but I have a personal interest in recording and mixing for surround and am also in the Bay Area.

I will PM you about that.

Re: Stereo to surround, download SPEC at check it out and don't by shy about asking for help or clarifications.

Cheers,
Z

Hello Zeerround and thanks for the welcome! Yes, my main intention is to learn to convert stereo to cool, somewhat discrete surround mixes. My preference is for 4.0, but I think there is something to be said for 5.1 as well.
As a side-benefit, if I can learn enough to someday mix some of my band stuff in surround that would be very cool.

Spec is optimized for 5.1, always giving a center channel.

I guess you could mix the center back into the fronts for 4.0...

I'm fine playing with 5.1! Whatever is easiest to start with, in any case.
