within the last few years. have taken Communications coarses in college. moving on to having my own radio show for over a year. know the basics of history n the power of sound. experience with bass, djing. transitioning to the serato type setup. but got interested in audio engineering is what lead me to this site. that i stumbled upon.

this is extremely interesting information but dont know where to begin. a friend of mine has a few super audio cd's / dvd's. and checked em out. while i believe those are true 5.1 sound mixes from the master copies / tracks. i was wondering how to turn an old record. either on cd or vinyl n make it sound like an experience rather then the same old cd i remember and enjoy listening to.

i have a mac os x 10.4, windows 7, win xp sp3, n a version of linux on my macbook pro intel duo. just to state what i am software n hardware wise compatible to doing.

really excited to start getting into this since technology is progressing. and as a dj. eventually after i'm experienced w/ making beats (is my current projects). to eventually getting dvd turntables. so i can scratch movies n hav 5.1 output sound of movies, music, mixes live on stage. n blu-ray having 7.1 channel in time. that i believe u can make audio / video mixing. but that stuffs expensive considering it's the "thing" to have. but blu-ray n hd tv is outdated n the next thing is coming out in 2 years.

First of all, welcome on our forum and I hope you find here what you need for your projects.

We really have no experience with Mac's so we can't tell you where you might run into trouble with our guides which were strictly written from a standard PC and Windows point of view.

The place to start is with the "First conversion" guide in the wiki. This guide is short, but it will make you go through other much more extensive guides like the basic SPEC guide. As you will soon realize, our methods are quite elaborate and require you to invest a bit of time to go through the entire process.

The vast majority of our techniques use free software, but you need to acquire a critical application (PLogue Bidule); fortunately, the current release can be downloaded for free from the Plogue site but it will expire in a few weeks. This will give you enough time to experiment with our methods and decide if you want to spam Bidule (for $75) or not.

I would recommend to start with an easy project and leave aside old vinyls for the moment. Use a standard CD for your first project. Once you get the hang of it, you will be ready for more difficult sources.

thanks for the quick response. considering it seems like a small crowd on here. a great one that i can tell. can i use Pro Logic for mac. i know that u can output the source into 7.1, 5.1, dts, dd, pro logic formats. or is this much more complex then that. i know of that and DTS has a program u can use as well from there website. it's a $100 bones and prolly the easiest to get used to. anyone use either?
